Are you looking to join an in-demand sector, with great earning potential? Becoming a gas installer could be the career move for you! No previous experience necessary; we can help you upskill in as little as 16 weeks. Here’s how…
Viva runs the LCL Awards Managed Learning Programme (MLP) for new entrants to the gas sector. The course is for people looking to become Gas Safe Registered, a legal requirement of trading as a gas engineer. It covers everything you need to know, all the relevant qualifications and even includes a work placement.
All you need to do is come along to one of our free open days where we will assess your suitability for the programme and tell you a bit more about what it entails.
Viva has helped a wide variety of people train to become gas installers – from computer programmers to landlords and ex-military personnel.
Gas installers are in demand! There are around 2 million domestic gas boilers sold every year, half of which are installed by independent installers. Experienced gas engineers can command salaries of over £50,000 a year. Once installed, boilers need servicing annually, providing a constant stream of work.
As we move towards a low carbon future, homeowners are being encouraged to swap old gas boilers (15 years or more) in order to improve efficiency and reduce fuel bills.
We cover everything you need to work safely on domestic gas within homes and small businesses, culminating in the ACS assessment; a legal requirement of becoming Gas Safe Registered.
Split into modules, each section of the course covers all the basics along with greater in-depth training. Our experienced tutors (ex-British Gas installers) will support you throughout the programme, which includes theory and practical training, in the classroom and on live installations.
We emphasise the focus on gas boiler installation because this is the most lucrative area within the domestic gas industry. In addition, learners can choose from the following categories:
From pipe work installation, to energy efficiency, health & safety and Water Regulations (WRAS), our new entrants gas programme has it covered.
You can find out more about what the course entails here.
Part of the programme includes completing a portfolio of live installations, we can help you find a work placement in a convenient location if you don’t have one already. This is key benefit to training with Viva. Many providers don’t offer work placements, which means only candidates who are already employed, or have gas engineer mates can train.
The work placement is a crucial requirement of the MLP programme; in order to demonstrate competence in the installation, repair and servicing of gas boilers and the other categories you may have chosen. You’ll need to do each of these elements five times in total to qualify. Hands-on experience is key to succeeding in your future career.
The programme is a mix of in-class theory and practical learning, plus work experience which counts towards your portfolio.
If everything goes smoothly and you stick to your training plan this can take as little as 16 weeks. It doesn’t matter if it takes longer however – you may need extra time on a specific module, or to re-do part of your portfolio is sufficient evidence isn’t achieved.
Usual hours 8:30 am – 4 pm
Usually, our new entrants gas course costs £7,475, however we are currently offering it at a greatly discounted rate of £4,975.
Finance packages are available should you wish to spread the cost over low, affordable, monthly repayments via https://ideal4finance.com/viva
Viva offers a range of gas courses, for existing Gas Safe Registered engineers looking to renew their qualifications and new entrants who are starting from scratch.
The UK needs renewable installers if it is going to meet the target of ‘Net Zero’ by 2050, presenting a great opportunity for plumbing and heating engineers looking to upskill.
