In a recent advisory issued by Gas Safe Register, an alert has been raised concerning a subset of Ideal combi and system boilers. The concern revolves around a potentially hazardous condition where, under fault circumstances, an excessive accumulation of air might become trapped in the boiler’s heat exchanger. This could lead to the boiler overheating and subsequently failing. The probability of such an occurrence is notably low, affecting less than 1 in every 10,000 units, yet the need for awareness and corrective action is paramount.

Affected Boiler Ranges

The advisory specifically identifies several ranges within the Ideal Heating lineup, including:

  • Logic Combi²
  • Logic System²
  • Logic + Combi²
  • Logic + System²
  • Logic Max Combi²
  • Logic Max System²
  • iMini²
  • Independent Combi²
  • Keston Combi²
  • Keston System²

Boilers produced between August 2022 and 7 January 2024 fall within the scope of this alert. It’s important to note that models manufactured outside these dates are deemed unaffected by this issue.

Corrective Actions and Customer Support

Ideal Heating has proactively established a dedicated support mechanism for homeowners and gas engineers. Individuals are urged to check whether their boiler is implicated in this safety alert by visiting Ideal Heating’s support website (www.idealsupport.co.uk) and entering their boiler’s 14-digit serial number. This number can be found on the bottom left under the boiler or within the installation and servicing manual.

Should your boiler be identified as affected, you will be guided through a process to register the installation details. Ideal Heating has committed to arranging an engineer visit to install an additional safety component, ensuring the ongoing safety and reliability of the product. This intervention is designed to be non-intrusive, not affect the boiler’s performance or efficiency, and is expected to take 30 to 60 minutes.

While awaiting the safety upgrade, Ideal Heating reassures customers that boilers can remain in operation. However, they advise maintaining the boiler pressure at 1.5 bar. Instructions for repressurising your boiler to this level can be found in the boiler’s installation manual and user guides.

Moreover, following the initial customer notice on 1st February, Ideal Heating has confirmed the commencement of the product safety upgrade rollout at the end of the same month. Amidst circulating social media content regarding related incidents, the company maintains that customers can continue to use their boilers with the recommended repressurzsation to 1.5 bar.
