Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) Course
The Air Source Heat Pump qualification provides learners with knowledge of heat pumps and builds on previous experience within the plumbing and heating sectors. It provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to further their career in the renewables area of the plumbing and heating occupations. The qualification has FOUR mandatory units. These cover the essential knowledge and understanding that is required by an experienced plumbing and heating specialist wishing to enter the field of heat pump technologies, including:
- Know the requirements to size, select, install, commission and handover heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits).
- Plan, prepare and install a heat pump (Non-refrigerant circuits)
- Commission and handover heat pumps (Non-refrigerant circuits)
- Know the requirements to inspect, service and maintain heat pump systems (Non-refrigerant circuits)
Our Heat Pump Studio will give you access to various air source heat pump appliances, so that you can practise the theory you’ve learnt on real units.
We do offer a number of funded places if you are part of a Competent Person Scheme (CPS). If you are interested in applying for the MCS or are looking for more information around the scheme, please see the Requirements/Qualifications tab
Please get in touch and we’ll put together a great package for you that will enable you to move into this exciting new area and grab a slice of the pie!
The Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) Qualification lasts 5 years.
Benefits of ASHP Training
Britain’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions calls for a huge increase in the number of air source heat pump installations across the UK. Figures in a recent report from the Committee on Climate Change estimate that 19 million heat pumps will need to be installed by 2050 if we’re to meet our Net Zero target.
In other words, current Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) installations, which number around 30,000 units a year, will have to rise to 600,000 a year. That’s some figure!
Like all our courses we focus on practical lead study so when you leave VIVA you have the practice skills, not just theoretical knowledge to take out into the world.
This all this means
- Get ahead of the green curve and capitalise on the legislation before the rest of the pack
- Guarantees new areas of income.
- Great skill to add to any Gas Engineers tool set.
- Opens the door to the other side of the gas & heating industry.
- Can help you transition your business into the green/renewables market.
ASHP Requirements & Qualifications
Prerequisites for ASHP training
If you don’t require MCS
Learners do not need any prior qualifications other than being certified in Water Regulations (WRAS). Don’t worry if you don’t have your WRAS, we can book you in to take it during your time with us centre, just get in touch with us.
If you wish to apply for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) after qualifying
Being MCS certified demonstrates to your customers that you install/manufacture to the industry-expected level of quality every time. MCS gives you a mark of quality which provides assurance.
Because of the requirements of the MCS scheme, learners must hold at least a Level 2/3 plumbing or heating qualification before they start or a demonstrable number of years of relevant experience. In addition to this, they must also have current certification in Water Regulations (WRAS).
Whichever path you choose, at the end you will hold a level 3 award in Heat Pump Systems (non-refrigerant Circuits). This enables you to work on mono-block heat pumps.
While not required to undertake this course, we do highly recommend taking the Hot Water Systems & Safety Assessment as it will enable you to install and maintain the domestic hot water requirements for an air source heat pump installation.
ASHP Training Location
This Course is based in our Halifax Training centre located close to the M62 with great access from all over the country.
Our purpose built centre offers state of the art classrooms and workshops where you can put into practice the principles you will learn about, getting in-centre experience working on actual appliances. The Air Source Heat Pump course and Water Regs (WRAS) if you choose to add this one take place in the Airs Source Suit, a built up
We find our students love our facilities so much they are one of the main reasons they keep coming back for further training.
Air Source Course Pricing
