Unvented Hot Water Course:

Unvented Hot Water Systems & Safety is an important part of installing renewable systems, like solar thermal. The qualification is a prerequisite to becoming Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) registered on systems including an Unvented Cylinder.

Training takes place at our Halifax centre and combines theory-based and practical learning. At the end of the course there’s a multiple-choice examination and a practical assessment.

The course covers:

System design
Principles of hot water storage
Regulations, standards & guidelines
Installation, commissioning and servicing unvented hot water cylinders
Fault finding
Components and function
Safety controls, discharge and integration
Maintenance and servicing of hot water systems
Health and safety considerations

The Hot Water Systems and Safety certificate is recognised by Competent Person Schemes, (CPS), enabling installers to self-certify their installations.

Training includes instruction on the installation of G3 Unvented Hot Water Systems, with a capacity of up to 500 litres and a 45kW power input. Candidates will learn how to comply with Approved Document G (ADG) 2016 in relation to working on hot water systems.

This course takes approximately one day to complete and the Unvented Hot Water Systems & Safety course certificate is valid for five years.

System & Safety Requirements & Qualifications:

Put simply, you need no formal qualifications to undertake the course unless you are planning on becoming Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) registered. If this IS something you are interested in; candidates should already be experienced in installing domestic cold and hot water systems. Heating engineers should hold a competency in a conventional fuel i.e. gas, oil or solid fuel, recognised by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). Plumbers need to hold the equivalent of an NVQ Level 2. Basic knowledge of the WRAS Water Regulations is also desirable but not required for all candidates.

This Course is based in our Halifax Training centre located close to the M62 with great access from all over the country.

Our purpose built centre offers state of the art classrooms and workshops where you can put into practice the principles you will learn about, getting in-centre experience working on actual boilers and appliances. Our facilities have multiple unvented cylinders plumbed in so trainees can gain an understanding of the systems in situ.
