F-Gas Level 3 Course
F-Gas certification is a requirement for Refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump (RACHP) engineers who work with Fluorinated Gases. F Gases cause global warming with the most harmful (those with a high Global Warming Potential (GWP)) are in the process of being phased out as part of the F-Gas regulations.
F-Gas courses allow you to work on split systems and recharge existing units. If you are wanting to start working on Heat Pumps then we highly recommend looking at our Air Source Heat Pump Course prior to completing your F-gas.
F-Gas certification must be renewed every five years.
What does our F-Gas Course cover?
Category 1 (Level 3):
Covers the installation, maintenance, service, recovery, decommissioning and leakage checking of refrigerant systems of any size, plus Categories 2 – 4.
Category 2 (Level 3):
Covers installation, maintenance, service, recovery, decommissioning and leakage checking of refrigerant systems with a charge of less than 3kg (6kg if hermetically sealed). Includes Categories 3 & 4
Not covered separately:
Category 3 (Level 2):
Refrigerant recovery from systems that contain less than 3kg of F-Gas.
Category 4 (Level 2):
Checking for leaks and identifying leakage risk in refrigerant systems, including air conditioning units and heat pumps.
F-Gas engineers will learn:
- Hazards and safe working practices
- The storage and transportation of recovered refrigerants
- The cause and effects of global warming, climate change and ozone depletion
- The recovery of refrigerant and oil in preparation for disposal
- Identification of components to air conditioning units and heat pumps
- Construction and examination of pipework, pressure testing, evacuation and completion of records
- The fabrication and fitting of mechanical brazed joints
- The installation, commissioning, servicing and repairs of refrigeration systems and heat pumps
- Industry-leading F Gas training
We’re approved by Worcester Bosch to deliver training to its F-Gas installers.
The course is led by industry expert trainers who bring a wealth of practical experience and up-to-date knowledge to the classroom. Learning from professionals who are deeply involved in the industry provides you with insider insights and practical tips that are not often found in textbooks, enhancing the quality of your education and preparing you for real-world situations.
Wider Learning
Appliances that use F Gas, such as heat pumps and air conditioning units, require plumbing works using specialist tools and equipment. As part of this course we touch on a wide range of areas within refrigeration including: Installing or repairing copper pipework in F Gas installations, as well as teaching our trainees to understand the different types of refrigerant and the different classes of flammability as recognised by legislation, safety standards such as BS EN 378, ISO5149, BS EN 60335 and manufacturers’ instructions.
Benefits of F-Gas Certification
The benefit of completing your F-Gas Certification is it allows you to work with refrigeration. This is ideal for current gas engineers as it allows you to install air conditioning in summer and boilers. Allowing you to diversify your business and provide a new range of products and services to your customers.
The big benefit of our F-Gas course is our Refrigeration Suite, designed by us to let you work on live systems in a safe environment backing up your theory learning with practical hands-on skills.
Upon completing the course, you will receive a certification demonstrating your competency in handling F-Gas systems. This certification enhances your professional credibility, making you a more attractive candidate for jobs in the HVAC industry that involve working with F-Gas systems.
This course is ideal for anyone seeking employment within the air conditioning, refrigeration and associated building and renewables industry.
This means
- Guarantees Winter & Summer income.
- Great skill to add to any Gas Engineers tool set.
- Opens the door to the other side of the gas & heating industry.
- Can help you transition your business into the green/renewables market.
Requirements & Qualification for F-Gas Level 3
Category 1 Requirements:
To qualify for Cat 1 F-Gas training you must hold a valid refrigeration qualification or certification.
Category 2 requirements:
You must have experience working within Plumbing, heating, or Electrical industry.
Both these options will allow you to install, maintain, service, recover, decommission, and check for leakage of refrigerant systems. The difference is in the amount of refrigerant that can be handled. For domestic us as well as small office buildings and restaurants, category 2 will most likely be sufficient.
Please note this course offers a digital certificate only and not a physical card. The digital certificate is the document required to register with REFCOM.
F-Gas Training Location
This Course is based in our Halifax Training centre located close to the M62 with great access from all over the country.
Our purpose built centre offers state of the art classrooms and workshops where you can put into practice the principles you will learn about, getting in-centre experience working on actual appliances. The practical of the F-Gas Course primarily takes place in the Refrigeration Suite, purpose built with bays of industry standard live refrigeration units for you to work on.
We find our students love our facilities so much they are one of the main reasons they keep coming back for further training.
Parking:
Please note all trainees are asked to park in the free car park opposite the mill. If you have a large van with ladders, or roof rocks and won’t fit under the 2.1m barrier, please get in touch with us and we will grant you a permit to park inside the mill complex.
