Low Temperature Heating System Course
The Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems course is designed for specialists in the heating and plumbing industry wanting to pivot into the renewable sector as well as designing efficient water systems.
The qualification is aimed primarily at practising plumbers and heating engineers who already have an understanding of the fundamental requirements of central heating systems and who wish to design and install energy efficient low temperature hot water heating systems that may use heat pumps as the heat source.
Our course covers the following topics:
- Understanding the importance of calculating heat loss from a dwelling when designing low temperature hot water heating systems.
- Designing low temperature heating systems for dwellings that use low temperature and/or low carbon heat sources.
- Knowledge of methodologies and calculations required to design energy efficient low temperature hot water heating systems.
The purpose of this qualification is to demonstrate competence in designing energy efficient low temperature central heating and hot water systems, which will expand career opportunities in the emerging technologies field.
Our training is delivered by experienced specialists in the field and covers a range of theoretical and practical elements. We provide all the necessary support and guidance needed to ensure that you gain the qualifications.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be able to design energy efficient low temperature heating systems and be certified to demonstrate your competence.

Benefits of Low Temp Hot Water Training
Upon the successful completion of the Low Temperature course you will hold the appropriate knowledge to design systems to run at a low temperature which is perfect when planning to install Air Source Heat Pumps.
Earning this Level 3 qualification enhances your professional profile, showcasing your advanced skills and knowledge in low water temperature systems. It serves as a testament to your competency and commitment to professional growth, opening up potential career advancement opportunities.
This means
You can get the most out of other courses in the renewable industry like Air Source Heat Pump.
Low Temp Hot Water System Requirements & Qualifications
Put simply, you need no formal qualifications to undertake the course unless you plan to become Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) registered. If this IS something you are interested in; candidates should already be experienced in installing domestic cold and hot water systems. Heating engineers should hold a competency in a conventional fuel i.e. gas, oil or solid fuel, recognised by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). Plumbers need to hold the equivalent of an NVQ Level 2. Basic knowledge of the WRAS Water Regulations is also desirable but not required for all candidates.
Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems is a recommended pre-requisite qualification to allow progression onto the Level 3 Award in Air Source Heat Pump Systems (Non-refrigerant Circuits) ETS-006, the Level 3 Award in Ground Source Heat Pump Systems (Non-refrigerant Circuits) ETS-007 and the Level 3 Award in Heat Pump Systems (Non-refrigerant Circuits) ETS-008.
Although designed as a recommended pre-requisite qualification to allow progression onto the suite of Heat Pump qualifications, this qualification can also be taken by those experienced operatives wishing to develop their skills in the design of low temperature domestic heating systems.
The holder of this qualification is not recognised as a competent hot water and heating systems (low temperature) installer. However, the holder is recognised as competent to design hot water and heating systems (low temperature).
