ACS Extension of Scope Course

We offer multiple ACS courses. Our accredited ACS Extension of Scope course is for existing Gas Safe Registered installers who want to expand their product knowledge and add new appliance codes, i.e. MET 1 and CKR1, to their gas ticket. If you are just needing to refresh your ACS and haven’t expired longer than 11 months, then see our ACS Reassessment. If your ACS has expired longer than 12 months you will need to take the ACS Initial Assessment. Reassessment must take place every five years in order for these qualifications to remain valid and you can take your reassessment up to 6 months prior to expiry.

The ACS Extension of Scope course covers four optional appliance codes.

CENWAT: Central Heating Boilers & Water Heaters
CKR1: Cookers
HTR1: Space Heaters (including Gas Fires and Wall Heaters)
MET1: Meters

What does ACS Extension of Scope training entail?

All our ACS training, whether initial, or reassessment, or Extension of Scope is broken down into two parts – theoretical and practical examinations.

The theory-based section is an ‘open book’ question paper; you will also have access to British Standards, IGEM Standards, Technical bulletins, and any other relevant documentation that can be used as references along with the training manual.

Practical examinations are completed in VIVA’s purpose-built ACS training bays.

ACS Extension of Scope Benefits

This course is designed for qualified Gas Engineers to expand their appliance codes, expand their current training, and add new work avenues to their business. The benefit of this is you can start working on appliances you did not cover or evidence in your initial Gas Training for e.g. Cookers (CKR1), Meters (MET 1), Central Heating (CENWAT), and Heaters (HTR1).

This means

You will have the potential to work on most domestic gas appliances

You will be able to take on a wider range of install and service jobs

You can diversify your skills and open up your work to less seasonal avenues.

Extension of Scope Requirements & Qualifications

You must provide your previous active ACS Certificate which shows your appliance qualification code(s) and expiry date. You must of been a qualified Gas Engineer for over 12 months before applying for HTR1, CKR1, and CENWAT. You can take the MET1 extension of scope anytime after you initial gas qualification.

Upon successfully completing the course, you will be certified in the appliance code(s) you trained in.

The updated qualification code is added to you NI number. You will need to contact Gas Safe to request a new Gas Safe card which will cost you £13.20 inc. VAT. The average delivery for a card can be 10 days. If you do not request a new card, when your annual renewal happens your new card will automatically have any new code(s) on it.

To find out what this means for you, please contact us at 0800 6123177.

ACS Extension of Scope Location

This Course is based in our Halifax Training centre located close to the M62 with great access from all over the country.

Our purpose built centre offers state of the art classrooms and workshops where you can learn about the different types of gas appliances and codes attributed to them.

We find our students love our facilities so much they are one of the main reasons they keep coming back for further training.

Of course, you will just need to enter their details above or when you get in touch with us. We will be required to speak to the individual trainee(s) before the course starts to check their ACS status.

Just recently completed a fault finding course with the ever knowledgeable Roy Fugler.I honestly cannot rate this training centre and Roy highly enough!I completed my ACS training with them over two years ago and they were my number one choice when I decided to expand my knowledge around the inner workings of a boiler and how to diagnose the issues that often arise.I will have to re-sit my ACS again in a few years and there’s only one place I’ll be going. It’s VIVA all the way!

Best course I have attended Unlike others which are showroom based don’t touch this or you left mark there. This was actually hands on course Different makes and models were in workshop both live and dead boilers also lots of sensor switches pumps,G valves etc. Pete was excellent made sure everyone understood what were they doing and what outcome or readings they were looking from each test carried out.pete put faults on live Boilers when we were away for break to simulate real world scenarios which was really good.Excellent would really recommend it.
